Final Weeks for Tax Returns

We've had some beautiful weather here in Calgary as I write this but also some snow storms. As usual, we're having some erratic weather in the city but expecting to see more sun and less snowfall in the coming weeks.

What is more certain, is that income tax will be due at the end of the month! Last month, I reminded everyone to take their T-slips and their RRSP Contribution Receipts to the accountant. I stressed that Non-Registered Account Statements should also be brought in and any Investment Loan Interest Statements too.

Remember Me!

With spring just around the corner, many Canadians have young people in their lives who are graduating from university, professional schools or community colleges. When the excitement of Commencement wears off, they are faced with the challenge of finding their first full-time paid jobs.

RRSP Season Ends, Income Tax Season Begins

We had another busy RRSP Season this year and are just catching our breath after two months of non-stop activity! The first two months of the year are always very busy for us with new Tax Free Savings Account Contribution Room and additions to RRSPs. We got hit with a flu that affected everyone in our house this February which had us out of commission for a while. We also dealt with the passing of Natalie’s Grandfather near the end of the month. It was a tough time for us and the first time our girls have had to attend a funeral.

Fulfilling Your Wishes

With many Baby Boomers now moving into their sunset years, the growing concern is how they will efficiently and effectively plan for the transfer of their wealth to the next generation?

A recent survey by RBC Wealth Management estimated that the amount of money changing hands over the next twenty years is about $400 billion. Yet, only 22 per cent of wealthy Canadians have a detailed Estate Plan on how they plan to pass on their assets according to this survey.*

Two Weeks Left!

With new TFSA and RESP Contribution Room now available, this is definitely our busiest time of year.

We’ve been going non-stop since the second week of January and seeing as many people as possible.

We’ve only got two weeks left for RRSP Contributions this year so please, get in touch with me right away if you’d like to get yours in!

The deadline is March 1st which means we’ll need to get together by the end of February. The RRSP Limit for 2016 was $25,370 and the limit for 2017 will be $26,010.
